Types of Accommodations
Flexibility with Deadlines and Attendance
Important Dates
It is suggested that incoming students apply for academic accommodations and submit all registration materials approximately 4 weeks prior to the first day of class. Any requests received after the suggested date are reviewed on a rolling basis.
Housing Accommodations
Students with disabilities may need housing accommodations to have full and integrated access to on-campus living. All incoming and returning students must follow the housing application process and timeline as published by Residence Life and Housing Operations. Students must be registered for on-campus housing before an approval of a housing accommodation can be made.
Important Dates
Important dates for requesting housing accommodations are as follows:
Returning Students
February 15th
3rd and 4th year students: having an accommodation approved does not guarantee Housing on-campus, as 3rd and 4th year housing is not required nor guaranteed per Emory Campus Life policy.
Incoming Students
June 1st
You may request accommodations at any time, however, applications received after these dates may be subject to availability.Housing Accommodation Review and Decision
Once the registration form and documentation have been received, an accommodation specialist will review your request. Students will be invited to attend a welcome meeting to review their needs and discuss types of housing accommodations. The following factors are considered when evaluating housing requests: severity of the condition, timing of the request, as well as feasibility and availability.
Housing Assignment
If your housing request is approved, DAS will notify Residence Life staff specifying a housing recommendation. Housing will then determine a specific room assignment for you. Your accommodation will remain on file for as long as you live on campus; you will not need to reapply for approved housing accommodation. However, your room assignment may change from year to year. Students with housing accommodations are required to participate in the annual housing selection process each year. The Department of Accessibility Services has no influence on a specific room or residence hall assignment. Housing should be contacted with questions or concerns about your room assignment and/or your housing contract.
Emory University is unable to:
- Provide a low distraction living environment accommodation based solely on diagnosis of ADHD or a learning disability.
- Cannot conclude that any residential buildings have less allergens (i.e. dust or mold) than others.
Dining Accommodations
Students who require accommodations for medically documented dietary requirements, including allergies, intolerances, or other health conditions, should make this request through The Department of Accessibility Services.
Registering with DAS helps to ensure that any dining and other potential accommodation needs can be met. Once you have been approved for dining accommodation, a consultation with a dietician is recommended.
